Elder Randall L. Ridd, second counselor in the Young Men general presidency spoke in the new Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults on January 11th. His message was about knowing why we do things and most importantly why we worship the way we do. God asks us to pray but do we pray to pray? To be seen of other men? To check it off our list? What is our motivation?
He shared a story about reading the Book of Mormon for seminary. The teacher gave stars every time a book was finished. Each time he got a star he felt good. In the end he didn't get a testimony of the Book of Mormon, he got stars. He got stars because that was his real intent. He had read "the right book for the wrong reasons".
Elder Ridd challenged us to figure out the why's of why we do things and find our purpose. Then to do everything with real intent. I feel very strongly that this is something I need to be better at. More sincere in my prayers, more sincere in my scripture study, more sincere when I partake of the Sacrament on Sunday.
My real intent for writing on this blog today is that God's servants, the prophet and apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have asked us to share our daily lives and experiences online on twitter, facebook, blogs etc... Since I sustain President Thomas S Monson and the apostles as servants of God I have decided to start writing about my daily life again.
I invite you to come along on my journey of self discovery and real intent in my calling as a Wife and Mother, in my church calling of being a Primary Chorister, in my calling as a Visiting Teacher and in my other callings of Friend, Neighbor, Sister, Daughter, Child of God.
